With a career defined by a lifelong passion for the road, Pete Bryce has transformed No Ls Driving School Bristol into one of the city’s most respected driving schools. Pete’s journey to the top of the industry is as unconventional as it is inspiring.

Pete founded No Ls in 2008 with a simple goal: to build a prestigious school of instructors who share his core values of excellence, integrity and care. His calm, patient and reassuring teaching style helps learners feel at ease, while his structured methodology ensures they gain a deep understanding of driving, not just the ability to pass a test.

A Legacy of Excellence

Under Pete’s leadership, No Ls Driving School Bristol has consistently been recognised as a leader in driver education. While awards are a point of pride, Pete’s true satisfaction comes from seeing students grow into confident, safe drivers. He leads a team of elite instructors, including long-time colleagues Neil Trolley and Dave Stone, ensuring every student receives top-tier coaching and guidance.

The Early Years

Pete began his professional life in the automotive industry as a paint matcher (a bold feat for someone who is colour blind!) before spending 23 years at the Commonwealth Smelting plant in Avonmouth. These experiences taught him patience, precision and problem-solving; skills that now form the backbone of his teaching approach.

The Pivot to Driving Instruction

Following the smelter’s closure in 2002, Pete pursued his true calling. He honed his craft at Safeway Motoring School and was later head-hunted by New Driver, where he qualified as a Fleet Trainer. It was here that Pete realised a gap in the market: a driving school built on trust, kindness and high standards, where students truly understand the skills they are learning.

Inspiration & Growth

Pete draws inspiration from his brother, renowned Hollywood film producer Ian Bryce. Watching Ian follow and surpass his dreams after reading Walt Disney’s autobiography provided a blueprint for Pete’s own journey.
